2010 April 18 - 22

We flew from San Jose to Las Vegas and rented a car.  We decided to extend our drive because friends told us the flowers were almost gone in Death Valley but we might still see some near Beatty, NV, on the higher elevations like Beatty Mountain (above). When we finally got to Beatty (above, yep it's about 95% mobile homes) it was to late to explore the mountain so we headed down the road.

The road to Death Valley was breath taking.

Entrance to Death Valley.  Turned out it was Earth Week and there was no charge to enter the park.

Along the drive from Las Vegas, Barbara was excited to get pictures of her first desert flowers.

The Furnace Creek Inn is an oasis in the middle of a desert.  Literally!  Interestingly, the inn is closed from mid-May through mid-October presumably because it's too hot to attract enough guests.

Our room was on a terrace with a fantastic view. The inn is at sea level.

We met our dear friends, Bill and Jill Wood, lounging by the pool.

Nice lobby and dinning room although the menu was a bit pricy.

Our room had a nice terrace.
