Ljubljana turned out to be a big surprise for me. They have made the old town a pedestrian area only (never mind the bicycles and motorcycles whizzing by). Most of the old buildings have been given a facelift. It's just a delightful town to explore.
Several beautiful town squares
The building below used to be the parliament. Now it's the university headquarters. President Bush and Putin met in this building and waved to the crowd from the balcony.
A river divides the old town.
With over a mile of restaurants and cafés on both sides. Best people watching ever.
Watch out San Antonio!
Several pedestrian bridges span the river. This new bridge has a glass bottom and wires to hang "I/We were here" locks. When the wires fill up, they undo the wires and remove the locks instead of tearing the bridge apart like Paris is doing.
This is the famous Three Briges. It's hard to get a good picture. Just imagine one wide bridge with a narrow bridge on each side.
Not all of the buildings have been cleaned up yet.

Saturday it rained but we still went out exploring and discovered the huge outdoor market.
I just had to share this with my engineering friends. Throughout the old town I saw six boxes lined up in front of many buildings. They were labeled organic, paper, and trash with little flap openings in the first 3 and lids on the other 3 but you needed a key card to open the lids.
Turns out it's an under ground garbage disposal system. Trucks run through tunnels and collect the garbage.

This sign marks an evacuation assembly point.
See you all at the next drill.

Explaining the meaning of life while enjoying a cold bottle of Prosecco and the view of Ljubljana.
Ljubljanains are serious about their trash because we saw a big demonstration at city hall shaming the citizens for creating too much trash. They claim the bright colored bags in front of city hall (see photo below) represent one year of trash. Shame, shame, shame.
Note the drone in the photo above. Turned out they were a professional crew getting ready to film a promo for Ljubljana. I had to watch the production. It's a guy thing. See film clip below.
