Here's the forecast in the newspaper today. Notice it's "Mainly fine"
except for showers and high humidity.
I'm not looking forward to an unfine day.

Followed this van half way to Wellington.

I think I just got a free pass for "double" highballs tonight.
Our 6 hour drive to Wellington was uneventful.
Didn't collect anymore eagles.
Guess that's PAR for this course
Our hotel is located central downtown 2 blocks from the harbor. It's very modern.
Our room is a small studio with a compact kitchenette. Barbara immediately informed me she's not cooking! I wonder if she will make some ice?

We're on the 8th floor. Sorry the curtains block the view but this is an impromptu shot from our bed and I may or may not have pajamas on.

I'm a little concerned after reading what to do "When the Ground Begins to Shake". I wonder if they have any rooms on the first floor.

Wellington is a compact and mostly flat city. So instead of taking the Hop On Hop Off bus we signed up for a walking tour. Turned out it was a small group, just 2 including us.

The tour started at this civic center square.
Moved on to the Queen's Wharf and Wellington Waterfront.

Public art is every where.

Then moved on to the beautiful
Te Papa - Museum of New Zealand

We didn't have time to go in the museum but we did go underground to see the earthquake protection. The whole building sits on these rubber blocks which dampen the earthquake vibrations.

Wellington has had 33 quakes greater than 1.5 magnitude in the last year. They had a 4.5 magnitude quake just 28 days ago...I want to know where I can buy some for my home in California especially since we sit on the same fault line as Wellington.
This is my video of the iconic Bucket Fountain on the Cuba Street Mall.

The erratic synchronization of the buckets is part of the charm.

After our tour we took the cable car to a lookout point high above the city.
The view was spectacular..
Rather than ride the cable car back down the hill we chose to walk down through the beautiful botanical garden.

We saw lots of these unusual trees but seem to be very common to New Zealand.
