Vancouver Island

August 11th  2013

Awaken by loud thunder and a light shower. Had a late brunch on the water front at De Dutch while killing time for Zienttes to open so we could pick up the "art piece" we bought last night. Since this was our first restaurant breakfast since leaving home and since it was going to be a long day on the road and since this was the specialty of the house I splurged on $19 meat lovers omelette. What they didn't say in the menu was the meat was raw. Have you ever eaten raw bacon?

Looking forward to a nice drive and ferry trip to Vancouver Island.

OOPS

Microsoft Streets & Trips said it was only a 1.5 hour drive to our resort on Vancouver Island. When I plugged our destination into the GPS,  I was shocked to see it shown as a 6.5 hour trip.  The GPS was smart enough to account for the ferry time...Microsoft Streets & Trips was not. To make matters worse when we got to the ferry terminal we were not able to get on because we didn't have a reservation.

NOTE TO SELF:  Make reservations for the ferry ahead of time on all future trips!

So now, instead of arriving at 4pm we didn't arrive until 8:33pm. Most of the extra time (3.5 hours) was spent sitting in our car in the hot sun.

The VI condo appears to be one big building with underground parking which is part of the Pacific Shores Resort complex.

We were assigned to a 2 bedroom unit on the 3rd floor. Not sure why. Maybe they are all doubles. Like in Mazatlan, each bedroom has its own bathroom which makes it nice families and invited guests. The master bedroom even has a fireplace.  Each bedroom has its own deck.

Bad news...there is no WiFi in the condo.  I might actually have to open a book
